We have been using Rapid Health since November 2025. Please find below the answers to some frequently asked questions.
What is Rapid Health?
Rapid Health is a clinically triaged appointment system for medical appointments. The system is designed to help ensure patients get the right care, whether it is self-care advice, or a consultation with a healthcare professional in the right timeframe and at the most appropriate clinical location.
If you are comfortable using online banking, online shopping or completing forms online, then you should be able to use Rapid Health. This service is designed to make it quicker and easier for you to access the care you need, whilst avoiding the “8am rush” on the telephone.
The system works by asking you specially designed medical questions which are then triaged according to urgency. It is important that you answer all the questions honestly and accurately as possible.
I’m unable to access online services. Can I still telephone the practice to make an appointment?
We strongly encourage patients to complete the Rapid Health form themselves if they can, as it is quicker than the receptionist having to read all the questions out to you, and some questions may be quite personal.
Please be aware that the receptionist cannot override the system and book you an appointment, they must complete the same Rapid Health form on your behalf and ask all the same clinical questions. This does mean that telephone calls will take longer for each patient contact.
If you do not have access to the internet, or if you are having trouble completing the form, please do telephone us and our staff will help you complete it.
If you can use the online system, please do so as this then means the receptionist can help support those patients who genuinely need telephone assistance.
How does appointment allocation work?
When you submit your form, if there is no immediate appointment available, then your request is forwarded to a medical triage inbox. This is manned by one of the GPs. You may then receive a live booking link once further appointments become available.
Appointments become available throughout the day, and we ask patients to keep checking the booking link regularly, especially if it originally says no appointments are available. The appointment link is only available on the day it is sent to you.
All correspondence is by email, so please keep checking your email inbox, including the junk or spam folders for appointments or communication from the clinician.
What do I do if I want to see a specific GP?
When booking an appointment, the GPs with available appointments will be shown. Please note that appointments are not always available with the GP Partners (Dr Huseen and Dr Shaw), as they may be running specialised clinics, or have other clinical or non-clinical duties.
How do I book a nurse appointment?
There are appointments available with the practice nurse through Rapid Health, or alternatively you can telephone the surgery to book one. We can book a nurse appointment up to 2 weeks ahead.
How do I book a medication review?
Please contact the practice by telephone or in person to book an appointment with the practice pharmacist. We can book a medication review appointment up to 4 weeks ahead.
When should I use the questions and admin request function on Rapid Health?
Have an ongoing health issue or need a follow-up appointment with a GP or nurse.
Have a question for the GP that does not fit into the Medical Request section.
Need to send a message to the GP, nurse, or reception team.
You can also use this section to request:
- Sick notes (Fit Notes)
- Blood test results
- Discuss hospital letters
Why have I been offered an appointment at the Derby Urgent Care Centre
Mickleover Surgery is part of Greater Derby Primary Care Network, and you may be offered an appointment at the Derby Urgent Care Centre. This is a timed appointment offered by clinicians of our Primary Care Network. This is a service we pay for creating additional appointments to help with our capacity.
We ask patients toavoid making multiple appointment requests. Please chose the main issue that you need help with. Submitting repeated forms on the same day, for the same problem or different problems leads to excessive appointment usage. Unfortunately, we have had instances where the same patient has received multiple appointments in a short period of time, which then impacts on the access to other patients.
Please use the service responsibly and fairly.
